چکیده

Protein synthesis in brain slices was followed by the incorporation of 14C-amino acid, mostly r4C-valine; it remained steady for at least 4 hours at 37”. When applied for 15 min or longer, electrical stimulation of slices, by use of alternating line current reduced to 0.5 to 3 volts, inhibited protein synthesis increasingly, the inhibition reaching a plateau at 1.5 volts. For comparison, the paired slice technique was used. When stimulation was in the presence of uniformly labeled i4C-glucose, only slight inhibition of 14C! incorporation into proteins was found. However, electrical stimulation also increases the conversion of glucose to amino acids. Therefore, the pool of 14C-labeled amino acids increases with stimulation. If this is taken into account, the degree of inhibition of protein synthesis due to electrical stimulation becomes equal whether the amino acid is internally produced from glucose or is added to the suspending fluid. Acidic amino acids that have excitatory effect on nerves in uiuo were found to inhibit protein synthesis in brain slices in the following order of decreasing percentage inhibition: DL-homocysteate (47%), L-glutamate (34%), D-aspartate (35%), and DL-or-aminoadipate (17%). Exposure was for 60 min at 37’. The order is approximately parallel to their excitatory potency on nerves. In both electrical and chemical stimulation, the inhibition of protein synthesis was poorly reversible or irreversible. Analogous effects of electrical stimulation or acidic amino acids were not found with kidney slices. Amino acid permeation in brain slices was unaffected by electrical or chemical stimulation.

Isoelectric solubilization /precipitation (ISP) process was used to isolate protein from muscles of Prussian carp, Carassius gibelio (Bloch, 1782). Fish protein and lipid were recovered from whole gutted Prussian carp using acidic and basic isoelectric solubilization/precipitation followed by assaying amino acid and fatty acid profile. Essential amino acids content in acidic and basic pH treatm...

Pattern of activity levels of amino trnasferases in the gonads of silkworm, Bombyx mori L.on exposure to prostaglandin F2

The impact of PGF2? on total proteins, free amino acids and the amino transferases in the gonads of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. were investigated in the present experiment. The effect of PGF2? resulted in increase in the total protein and free amino acid contents in the gonads of silkworm larvae indicating improved structural and dynamic levels of organization. The enhanced activity levels of amin...

The effects of locus coeruleus electrical stimulation on brain waves of morphine dependent rats

Introduction: Opiates cause dependency via affect on central nervous system. Locus coeruleus nucleus is a main group of noradrenergic neurons in the brain that plays an important role in the expression of opioid withdrawal signs. During opioid withdrawal, brain waves change in addition to physical and behavioral signs. In this study, we examined the effects of locus coeruleus electrical sti...

Control of epileptic seizures by electrical low frequency deep brain stimulation: A review of probable mechanisms

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disease with no definitive method in treatment. Notably, the main way to treat and control epileptic seizures is drug therapy. However, about 20-30% of patients with epilepsy are drug resistant and require other therapeutic manners. Deep brain stimulation is a new therapeutic strategy for these patients. Conspicuously, there are no clear answers for basi...
